This week, I’m happy to introduce you to Stacey Weeks, a fellow author at Pelican Book Group. Stacey is here today to tell you about her Christmas novella, Mistletoe Movie Star. I was fortunate to be able to read it. You can find my review at the end of the post!

Stacey, can you tell us a little bit about where you got the idea for Mistletoe Movie Star?

Often, the things I am studying in the Bible, or life events that rock my world, make their way into my novels. At the time of writing Mistletoe Movie Star, I attended a local city council meeting regarding our growing homeless crisis. As my friend gave a speech that championed the transient community made in God’s image and deserving of dignity and stability, I found my heroine Charlene.

Charlene embraces three young girls fighting to stay together who were afraid to hope because their dreams and security were stolen. The enemy often uses tragic circumstances to tempt us to doubt God’s sovereignty and love. The enemy loves to throw a shadow on the character of God. Consider the weighty questions these young girls had been forced to answer:

How could homelessness be a part of God’s plan?

What happens if they hope in God, and He fails to deliver?

My hopes for Mistletoe Movie Star changed the night of that meeting. I knew that I wanted a story that was more than pretty snow and sleigh bells, more than Santa slipping down the chimney or leaving out cookies and milk, and I got one. This story became my prayer for my community and yours.

What kind of people would enjoy your story?

If you enjoy Hallmark movies, you’ll love the books set in Mistletoe Meadows. They provide a fun escape from daily life while celebrating family values and instilling hope. And when you read Mistletoe Movie Star, know I’ve been praying that you’ll discover the greatest gifts of the season are never found under a tree.

When and where can we find your books? Are there other books you’d like to share with us?

Mistletoe Movie Star releases Dec 1st. It is the third in a series that tackles deep subjects while leaving you inspired, hopeful, and filled with joy. I believe that Christmas romances can be meaningful faith-building reads, but you don’t have to wait for December first for encouragement! A musician wrestling with a life-altering diagnosis spends Christmas with an 11-yr-old stroke survivor and her widowed father in Mistletoe Melody, novella 1 in the series. Readers call it a heartwarming and refreshing read in a typically predictable genre. In Mistletoe Mission (novella 2), a jilted missionary and unlucky-in-love event planner team up to save a holiday wedding. Readers call it another fun and sweet visit to Mistletoe Meadows and a perfect Hallmark movie.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Stacey!

Mistletoe Movie Star is a short, sweet, feel-good inspirational romance. The heroine, Char, has a huge heart and is always looking to make her corner of the world a better place. The story addresses the problem of homelessness, and reminds us that all are made in God’s image, and all need to be treated with dignity and respect. The book is well-written, and the characters are well developed, especially for a novella. You can’t help but root for the main characters in their quest for good (and for love!). One line I especially enjoyed: “Lord, I can’t see ten steps down the road, but I know the next step is trusting You.” Something we’d all do well to remember! If you’re looking for a book that will remind you of a Hallmark Christmas movie, put Mistletoe Movie Star on your December reading list!
