When You Walk Through the Fires

When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

The Lord has been reminding me of this verse multiple times over the past year and a half. It’s the theme of Convincing Lou, which released August 16th. I wrote this book at a time when I was going through a major storm in my life, one that continues to sweep in when I least expect it.

This week, I was reminded again how God promises to be with us when we go through the waters, pass through the rivers, and walk through the fire. Not if, but when. I don’t know about you, but I find comfort in knowing God has made this promise. Reassurance that He’ll always be with us, no matter what we’re going through.

As I wrote a scene in a new book I’m working on this past week, the Lord once more brought the verse to mind. A town, near where I live, recently celebrated the 160th anniversary of when the rebels came in and burned most of it. Over 2000 people were immediately homeless as their homes and businesses were set on fire and burned to the ground. These people literally walked through the fire and flames, but yet, God protected them.

I hope you’ll discover more about this spiritual truth the way my heroine does in Convincing Lou.

How hard can it be to round up one delinquent groom?

Ellie Lou Williams will do just about anything to save her ranch, even going undercover as a man to round up a fella who is late to his own wedding. The reward will more than cover the money she owes the bank and solve all her problems.

Caleb Martin agrees to one final job as a deputy U.S. Marshal before he starts his new life away from the trail and tracking criminals. What he isn’t counting on is a mysterious bounty hunter who’s determined to undermine his every step.

Will one reach their goal first? Or will they learn to lean on God and work together?

I’ve enjoyed all the books I’ve read in this series, and this one is no exception. Ms. Wolfe has a way of transporting the reader to a different time. While her books are set in the past, the characters are people you can easily relate to, and you feel like you’re right there with them. My favorite part about this series (other than the wonderful storytelling), is that the characters have very real struggles and we journey along with them as they learn and grow closer to God. There are a lot of wonderful messages in the book. Ellie Lou is a strong, independent woman that just wants to save her ranch, but troubles keep coming her way. She can’t see why God doesn’t answer her prayers. I loved seeing how her struggles drew her closer to God.
The characters from the previous books in the series all have supporting roles, but this book can be read as a standalone. Pick this one up – you won’t regret it!
