I’m pleased to welcome Katie Clark to the blog this week. Katie started reading fantastical stories in grade school and her love for books never died. Today she reads in all genres; her only requirement is an awesome story! She writes young adult speculative fiction, including her romantic fantasy novel, The Rejected Princess, her Beguiled Series, and her dystopian Enslaved Series. You can connect with her at her website, or on social media @KatieClarkBooks.
Here’s the latest from Katie!
Adventures or Trials?
Adventures sound fun in theory. Who doesn’t love a story of danger, heroes, and big stakes? Unless, of course, you’re the one living through it.
Amber, the main character in my newest novel A Dim Hope, finds herself in this place. She’s always dreamed of adventure and travel, but then her sister is gravely injured, and Amber is sent away to be a servant for a scientific expedition. Her adventures look more like trials, and all she wants is to get home to her sister.
Through it all, Amber is drawn to seek out the Keeper, the mysterious mythical being who controls the world. Can the Keeper help?
Amber’s trials push her to dig deep and find the Keeper. Only with Him can Amber’s trials turn into an adventure.
This has certainly been true in my own life—I have faced my fair share of trials. These trials, though, have pushed me into a closer relationship with the Lord.
When I wrote A Dim Hope, it was my sincere hope I could portray this phenomenon for my readers. Life is full of trials, but with God we can face anything!
A Dim Hope releases on September 22nd!

Amber is in trouble. Her sister is dying—and so is her homeland. The Lifeforce stones that power their world are waning, and no one knows why. When the rulers of the land prepare a scientific expedition to study the place where the veins of the Lifeforce run deep, Amber is forced to travel as a servant with the expedition. Though Amber has longed for adventure, her dream always included her sister. Now her only wish is to return home with a cure before it’s too late.
Crops are wilting, food is scarce, and sandstorms, avalanches, and earthquakes threaten to doom the expedition. Besides this, there are more sinister forces at work. Quiet arguments and missing supplies lead Amber to believe their efforts are being sabotaged. She uncovers clues, but the real source of their trouble—and hope—lies in places she never expected.
A Dim Hope by Katie Clark is a delightful read! The book follows the adventures of a teenage girl as she makes her way on a dangerous expedition through foreign lands to determine why the Lifeforce stones, the key to health and prosperity in their world, are dying. Fans of C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will enjoy this book. While there are no lions, you’ll find plenty of horses and even ostriches! There are no overtly Christian references, but it is easy to see how the story applies to the Christian life. Great writing, engaging characters, and a page turning plot make it a fun read for all ages!
